Planta Rancagua Opens Its Doors to the Community in the Empresas Abiertas Program

In general, industrial companies have been opening their doors to their relevant communities for some time now. ME Elecmetal is embedded within various communities and actively engages them in its daily operations,

• Community engagement: Involving the local community in decision-making and seeking their consent before carrying out mining operations.

• Transparency: Being transparent in their operations, providing clear information about their practices, environmental and social impact, and financial status.

• Corporate social responsibility (CSR): Through CSR programs and projects aimed at benefiting local communities, such as building schools, health centers, or sustainable development projects.

• Sustainable practices: by adopting sustainable mining practices to minimize the environmental and social impact of their operations.

Contributing to the “Value Creation Connections” pillar of the Company’s sustainability strategy, through an approach to stakeholders, was part of the activity carried out during October 2023, in partnership with SOFOFA.

On this occasion, a cross-sector call was made for the Empresas Abiertas program, which the Rancagua Plant joined and was attended by leaders from civil society, representatives of Churches, Corporations, and Neighborhood Councils of the municipality.

Empresas Abiertas is part of SOFOFA’s sustainability initiative commemorating its 140th anniversary, aimed at increasing trust levels with the private sector. For this, various companies were invited to open their doors to the community as a sign of the integration of companies with their environment. The activity took place simultaneously in different regions of the country.

Our Rancagua Chile plant and the community

It is important to mention that the Rancagua Plant has ongoing initiatives that connect the plant with its surroundings. In fact, through the people management leadership, the Plant engages with the community by participating in relevant milestones, as well as contributing to certain commemorations.

For ME Elecmetal, sustainability is part of its history and is at the core of its operations.

The company listens to its key audiences – customers, employees, suppliers, shareholders, and the community – with the goal of delivering solutions that respond to their needs and the impacts generated by our business.

Under this premise, it manages the “Value Creation Connections” pillar, which seeks to actively involve stakeholders in value creation, acting as a change agent that drives sustainability in its environment and industry.

“Empresas Abiertas is an excellent opportunity for the community to learn what the company does and why it does it. These experiences are a very good way to build trust and create longer-lasting bonds,” Braulio Guzmán, Manager of Corporación Pro O’Higgins

Representatives of the neighboring community and regional leaders experienced firsthand the work of the foundry, speaking with Plant employees who led the tour of the facilities and explained some of the safety and environmental care standards in place in the foundry’s management.

This approach also allows engagement as a neighbor of Rancagua and to learn firsthand the expectations of regional stakeholders.

“This is the first time I’ve been inside the company, and being here makes a difference. Today I learned how it works inside and can share it with confidence. I left with a very good impression; I saw a very clean, environmentally friendly, and quite safe process,” María Constanza Quintana, President of Santa Blanca Neighborhood Council

For us, it is very important to engage closely with the community in order to contribute from our role as a company to the development of society and to be able to capture their concerns in a timely manner.
