The mining client has raised needs in various areas of sustainability: in the case of the environment, measuring the carbon footprint, water usage, integration of renewable energies, as well as greater transparency in disclosures and definitions regarding performance. The same applies to governance, as well as diversity and inclusion, and community engagement, in terms of social scope, among others. Thus, the mining value chain has worked to raise this standard, adapting to the industry's needs.
That is why the work ME Elecmetal has done in this area, after completing diagnostics and conclusions on where more value can be added, relates to organizing information about our performance, consistently disclosing it and under certain priorities according to our own materiality and, from the production centers – as the structuring axis of the information – to the final client, accounting for the positive impact of having increasingly sustainable performance and decarbonizing the mining industry's supply chain at both global and local levels.
- The mining client has shared their climate and decarbonization goals for 2030 and 2050, and supplier companies have declared and managed initiatives to support this. This is the foundation of ME Elecmetal’s strategy as Partner for Sustainable Mining.
- Also, clients proactively request data to report their actual impacts, that is, specific data or indicators for management periods from their suppliers, whether quarterly, semiannual, or annual. This data is part of the positive impact of the chain on the client’s operation, i.e.: traceability
- In the entire Mining Value Chain, reports are shared with the main indicators of a company’s sustainability strategy. In the case of ME Elecmetal, and considering that a Sustainability Strategy is already in place, key indicators addressing each of the 4 pillars (ME Elecmetal Signature, Our People, Environment, and Value Creation Connections) have been identified.
Achieving the key objectives for sustainable mining development, including decarbonizing as much of its operation and value chain as possible, promoting care for the environment, life on earth, and climate stability, through updating sustainability indicators, is a process that has been gradually carried out by integrating more and more data. Currently, it is in the Environment pillar where the mining industry has the greatest impacts and, therefore, where the largest number of indicators are being reported.
Consolidated, in the latest Report made available to commercial teams and focused on clients, a total of 13 indicators were reported across the four pillars, which are presented below:
ME Elecmetal Signature
- Ownership and Control
- Presence
- ME FIT Services
Our People
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Health and Safety
Environment
- Management of Recovery and Use of Metallic Raw Material
- Energy Management

Value Creation Connections

Currently, ME Elecmetal is disseminating sustainability indicators internally and to its clients on a semiannual basis. To this end, a presentation-format report was developed, showing performance broken down by operations in Chile, the United States, and China, and additionally, a global indicator, as ME Elecmetal Global, which integrates the previous ones.
The current challenge is aligning the indicators and integrating the footprint performance of ME Elecmetal and thus establishing environmental and social goals for 2030, alongside the management of programs and initiatives that enable compliance with these voluntary commitments set by the company.
“The years 2022 and 2023 were dedicated to defining our Strategy, areas that have been intrinsic to our business model. The year 2024 has been one of organizing and systematizing data, in preparation for what is coming: management.”
