ME Elecmetal uses innovative international tool to measure and increase its circularity rate

Our company is one of the 27 Chilean companies that are part of the Clean Production Agreement (APL) “Transition towards the Circular Economy,” where we are being trained in the use of CTI, a methodology created by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and KPMG, which will allow us to develop a circularity baseline at Planta Rancagua to accelerate sustainable actions.

In line with our corporate value “Commitment to Sustainability” and aware of the importance of being part of the so-called “decade of action” where Chile has set ambitious circular goals through the “Roadmap for a Circular Chile by 2040,” ME Elecmetal is part of the Clean Production Agreement (APL) “Transition towards the Circular Economy,” where we are being trained in the use of the international tool “Circular Transition Indicators 2.0” (CTI), created by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the consulting firm KPMG, which will allow them to measure the impact of their circular activities through metrics, whether at the company, business unit, or product group level.

“The work on Circular Economy that we started in Rancagua will allow us to continue advancing in reducing the consumption of raw materials, energy, water, and the use of waste by recycling it or giving it a new life to turn it into new products and quantify to improve the circularity of the entire cycle of our products,” says Matias Bustos, Operations Manager at Planta Rancagua, where – initially – a circularity baseline will be executed, enabling us to develop a management plan and guide the reduction of primary resources – such as fossil sources – and waste reduction. Additionally, CTI considers the analysis of inputs and outputs of water, energy, and materials used to generate products and services, along with waste. The purpose is for us to understand risks and opportunities to prioritize actions that monitor our performance.

Currently, a group of our company’s employees are undergoing training on the use of the tool, led by WBCSD and the consulting firm KPMG, which began last May and will conclude next September.”

This APL, which ends at the end of 2023, brings together various public and private actors seeking to build capacities for the circular economy, as well as generate standards that can be used across different productive sectors.
