In the different countries where ME Elecmetal has production, most of the sustainability inputs in environmental and social areas are generated. It is in these operations that information is requested by our clients to meet the ESG commitments they have made.
Therefore, one of the challenges of the recently established Global Sustainability Committee is to unify criteria at a global, regional, and local scope; to monitor the main projects being implemented; and to contribute to the commitments of Large Mining, fundamentally regarding Scope 3 decarbonization and Carbon Neutrality.
Mining clients, as well as other target markets, request information on sustainability topics relevant to their own performance, such as: carbon management, energy, water, circularity, as well as practices related to people, supply chain, and communities. And although the information is made available on all occasions, we are advancing in the scope and quality of the information. Therefore, through the Committee, work will be done on:
- Selection of indicators for periodic reports to clients.
- Monitoring the Action Plan for 2024 and achievement of objectives.
- Mobilization and increase of contribution and value generation throughout our value chain.
The client will have information regarding the different sustainability areas, aligned with methodologies, international standards, and evidence.
ME Elecmetal has outlined its commitment to sustainability, which includes 4 pillars, with management approaches and priority actions for 2024.
Below is the image summarizing the four pillars and their management approaches:
- ME Elecmetal Signature: The values are the ME Elecmetal signature, guiding our decision-making and the way we relate to each of our stakeholders.
- Our People: Concern for the well-being of our team is inspired by our own history and seal, that is, respect for the dignity of people and their integral development, as well as the proactive pursuit of excellence.
- Environment: Environmental protection is an urgent global challenge that we address in each of our operations and solutions. We are committed to being an active agent to promote GHG reduction and the development of more circularity in the industry, innovating and designing better alternatives and providing ongoing information about our environmental performance to the market.
- Value Creation Connections: We work to make mining sustainable by creating value throughout our chain as one of our purposes, and innovation and collaboration are the essential principles to do so alongside our main stakeholders: suppliers, partners, clients, and community.
Sustainability will be implemented functionally according to the progress and fulfillment of prioritized actions. For the 2024-2025 period, the following priorities were established:
- Complete methodological guideline regarding the carbon footprint: for scopes 1, 2, and 3, verified and with aggregate reduction targets across all plants.
- Development of a global female talent program, promoting increased hiring of women.
- Incorporation of various indicators to achieve robust information, that is, with trajectory and comparability related to material topics in environment, social, and governance.
- Construction of periodic reports to clients, advancing integrated disclosure, financial sustainability, as a global Company.
To address our commitments and objectives in Sustainability, integrated governance was incorporated into the existing corporate structure (Corporate Committee, Business Committee, and ME Regions), allowing a comprehensive view of ME Elecmetal, recognizing the company's history and integrating local particularities.
During 2024, the Committee will be composed of the following representatives from ME Elecmetal Regions:
- ME South America
- ME North America
- ME China
- ME Grinding Media
- ME EMEA
- ME APAC
This constitution allows visibility from all regions and operations and integrates both a global and local perspective in decision-making.
Additionally, this Committee will monitor more specific and technical initiatives to implement. For this, Task Force Teams were established, associated with existing Global Committees, who will execute, monitor, and report progress on priority initiatives, as well as connect sustainability with everyday management aspects.
In terms of frequency, quarterly sessions with direct reporting to the Business Committee were established, with the expectation that, in the medium term, employees first, and then the entire supply chain, will make sustainability an element of their culture, with habits in their daily work and contributions from each specialty.
“Our commitment to sustainability is an integral part of our identity, and the foundation is putting people at the center: workers, customers, suppliers, and communities, stakeholders who must be on the radar of our Global Sustainability Committee”
