Can you introduce yourself and explain your role in the company?
My name is Batzaya Batochir, but most know me as Zaya, which means “destiny” in Mongolian. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, where my parents were studying at university, but I am proud to be Mongolian. I come from a country with a rich culture of nomadic traditions, the legacy of Chinggis Khaan, and the coldest capital city in the world: Ulaanbaatar.
I am married and have a son and a daughter. As a family, we volunteer at a local pet shelter, and my son leads a school club called “Paw Protectors,” promoting animal rights, a fairly new topic in Mongolia. I also volunteer with the Veloo Foundation, which works with vulnerable children to provide early education and… I love to travel! Another passion of mine is CrossFit: I train three to four times a week and am an internationally certified judge.
I graduated in Finance from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, USA, and later completed an MBA at the University of Finance and Economics of Mongolia. I speak Mongolian, Russian, and English, which has enabled me to collaborate in a global environment, connecting cultures and regions. I currently serve as Head of Sales and Marketing Administration at ME Elecmetal Mongolia, and my responsibilities are varied: I support the daily operation of our office, perform translations, handle sales tasks for the EMEA region, and manage administrative responsibilities locally.
What attracted you to ME Elecmetal?
When I started at ME over ten years ago, there were only two of us and we didn’t even have a formal office: everything was to be done! I am proud to have been part of building what is now a solid headquarters, supporting our Eurasia team and already having nine colleagues in the region. I also believe I was the first Russian-speaking person in the region, and I am glad to have contributed to opening the market in Russian-speaking countries.
How would you describe the culture at ME Elecmetal?
What I like most about the company is its cultural diversity and strong work ethic. I love participating in our Annual Sales Conferences, where I can meet colleagues from all over the world in person. It’s a wonderful way to break the feeling of isolation that sometimes comes from working in such a remote office as ours.
And although I work in a male-dominated environment, I can say there’s no drama… and I like it that way!
What benefits do you value most about working here?
Internally, diversity stands out as one of the most exciting and enriching experiences. It’s amazing how many different English accents you can hear at the Sales Conference. And it’s all related to ME Elecmetal’s success!
“We have faced challenges with clients when entering markets with different cultural characteristics. For example, issues related to language barriers, culture, political conflicts, corruption, currency, logistics, communication, etc.”
Personal anecdotes about teamwork, achievements, or company events
We have faced challenges with clients when entering markets with different cultural characteristics. For example, issues related to language barriers, culture, political conflicts, corruption, currency, logistics, communication, etc.
How does your team contribute to solving challenges in the mining industry?
Our team does an excellent job reaching markets by maintaining close relationships with clients and addressing their needs in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Ukraine, and Mongolia. The importance of relationships and the durability of our products stands out, helping clients reduce costs and improve operational performance.
What excites you most about the future of ME Elecmetal?
Looking ahead, I dream of retiring someday at ME Elecmetal. It’s a wish that reflects how much I believe in this company and the meaningful journey we have built together over more than a decade.
Working in a predominantly male environment has been a refreshing experience for me. I appreciate the direct dynamic and the absence of drama, and honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
