Sustainability has become a strategic factor for business competitiveness and resilience across the industrial and mining value chain. In this context, ME Elecmetal, as a critical supplier and strategic partner to the mining industry, has taken a significant step by participating in the international EcoVadis assessment, one of the leading global platforms for evaluating corporate sustainability management systems and supply chains.
The EcoVadis methodology assesses organizations across four key dimensions: environment; labor and human rights; ethics; and sustainable procurement. By reviewing policies, actions, indicators, and supporting evidence, the assessment helps identify strengths, recognize gaps, and define concrete improvement actions for each evaluation cycle.
An Assessment Driven by Value Chain Expectations
ME Elecmetal’s participation in EcoVadis largely responds to invitations from strategic customers seeking to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of their supply chains.
For these customers, ME Elecmetal is a relevant supplier whose management practices can contribute to achieving their operational and sustainability objectives. In this context, EcoVadis provides a structured framework for evaluating supplier management practices and generating information that supports responsible sourcing processes and the management of indirect impacts across the value chain.
The assessment is managed centrally by ME Elecmetal’s Sustainability team, which consolidates information and supporting evidence from the different regions and functions in which the company operates.
This process requires significant coordination, collaboration, and rigor to ensure that each response accurately represents the organization’s global scope and is supported by reliable, verifiable, and useful information for customers and other stakeholders.
Beyond responding to the requirements of strategic customers, the assessment has become an internal management tool that allows ME Elecmetal to communicate its performance in a structured manner, identify gaps, strengthen its processes, and guide its continuous improvement roadmap.
Significant Progress
In its first assessment, conducted in early 2025 using 2024 information, ME Elecmetal achieved a score of 35 out of 100, establishing a baseline to guide its improvement plan.
One year later, the company made significant progress, reaching 62 out of 100 and ranking in the 61st percentile among more than one thousand companies in the iron and steel industry.
This improvement, which nearly doubled the initial score, was particularly significant in the environmental dimension, where ME Elecmetal achieved 78 out of 100.
Based on 2025 performance information, this progress enabled the company to receive the Committed to Sustainability recognition.
This milestone reflects not only an improved rating, but also the strengthening of a more structured and coordinated sustainability management system supported by documented evidence.
For ME Elecmetal, the result also marks the completion of its first sustainability management cycle for 2022–2025 and the beginning of a new phase focused on deepening progress toward 2030.
Environmental Performance as a Key Strength
Among the dimensions assessed, environment achieved the strongest result, reflecting the strength of ME Elecmetal’s historical performance in this area.
The results are being incorporated into the company’s sustainability strategy and closely linked to its Circular Business Model.
According to the assessment analysis, the increase in the score is mainly explained by four factors:
Strengthened sustainability policies and measures.
Greater development and publication of performance information.
Availability of an advanced environmental management system.
Absence of relevant records in external risk databases.
Together, these advances contribute to progressively decoupling business growth from environmental impacts, making it possible to combine the company’s sustained development with more responsible management of resources and impacts.
Through this approach, ME Elecmetal continues to strengthen its sustainability, competitiveness, and resilience in response to the challenges facing the global mining industry.
The other assessed dimensions also showed improvement. In future evaluation cycles, the challenge will be to continue strengthening internal performance, the implementation of consistent practices across regions, and the effective management, measurement, and communication of results.
“Today, sustainability is not only a challenge, but a prerequisite for competing and growing in the industry. At ME Elecmetal, we understand that advancing through standards such as EcoVadis allows us to strengthen our internal management while increasing the value we deliver to our customers and the entire supply chain.”
Results by Dimension
Dimension | Score |
|---|---|
Environment | 78/100 |
Labor and Human Rights | 63/100 |
Ethics | 49/100 |
Sustainable Procurement | 41/100 |
Overall score | 62/100 |
The results enabled ME Elecmetal to achieve the Committed to Sustainability recognition, reflecting the progress made in strengthening its policies, actions, management systems, and reporting mechanisms.
A Tool for Internal Transformation
The EcoVadis assessment process has helped identify relevant improvement opportunities and advance the standardization of sustainability practices globally.
In this context, the challenge is to consolidate a cross-functional culture of sustainability that integrates all ME Elecmetal regions, business lines, functions, and strategic partners.
This work will contribute to strengthening the company’s international positioning and its role as a relevant player in the mining value chain, regardless of geography and always with a focus on customer needs.
In this way, participation in EcoVadis does not respond solely to external requirements. It is also becoming a driver of internal transformation, helping ME Elecmetal strengthen its management practices, increase the transparency of its performance, and move consistently toward a more sustainable future.
In line with its 2030 strategy, ME Elecmetal aims to go beyond compliance with market standards by strengthening its capabilities in circularity, sustainability, and innovation, generating value for its customers and contributing to the sustainable development of the global mining industry.
