Beyond our Talents: Constanza Gonzalez, Sales & Services Engineer at ME Elecmetal Chile – Field-Tested and Future-Focused

Can you introduce yourself and your role in the company?

I joined ME Elecmetal two and a half years ago, beginning in the International Wear Analysis group of the Early Alert department, where we create technology that equips mining operators with real-time insights for faster, better decisions.
Four months ago, I embraced a new challenge and moved to the Crushing team as a Sales & Services Engineer. In this role, I partner directly with customers, developing wear components that are specifically designed and alloyed for each application and location within the crushers.

 

What attracted you to ME Elecmetal?

After earning my Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Santiago, Chile, I was eager to explore the mining industry, and ME Elecmetal stood out as the ideal place to start. The company had a strong reputation, and many former classmates who had joined spoke highly of their experiences—both professionally and personally.

 

Was I worried about the possibility of there being few women?

Honestly, no. I was already used to studying in a male-dominated environment, and from day one at ME Elecmetal, I found inclusive, equitable spaces where I’ve been able to grow and learn—up close and hands-on—about one of Chile’s most vital industries.

I became part of a young, dynamic team full of fresh ideas and strong international connections, which made for an incredibly enriching learning experience. At the same time, I had the opportunity to continue my academic journey and successfully completed a degree in Industrial Civil Engineering—managing to balance my studies and professional responsibilities with confidence and support.

 

How would you describe the culture at ME Elecmetal?

The culture at ME Elecmetal thrives on collaboration, camaraderie, and a genuine passion for pursuing new ideas. When I first joined, I had a strong academic background but quickly realized how much I still had to learn in practice. Thankfully, the Early Alert team welcomed me with patience and openness—always ready to answer questions and support my development.

That same spirit carried over when I transitioned to a new department. I felt comfortable asking questions and exploring new challenges without hesitation. There’s a real sense of teamwork here, where going above and beyond isn’t the exception—it’s the mindset.

 

What benefits do you value the most about working here?

One of the things I value most is being part of a company with strong international recognition and a broad, global perspective. Working across different areas has given me a well-rounded understanding of the mining industry, and I’ve found both professional stability and personal growth along the way.

At ME Elecmetal, I’m not treated like just another employee—I’m seen as a whole person. My contributions are acknowledged, and there’s real support for balancing work with personal passions. I love outdoor activities like climbing, yoga, and traveling, and the flexibility here has allowed me to pursue those interests while also taking courses and diploma programs to continue advancing my career. The opportunities to learn, travel, and grow—both professionally and personally—have truly broadened my outlook and future ambitions.

Can you share a personal story or memorable experience at ME Elecmetal?

Each area I’ve worked in has offered valuable and unique experiences. During my time with the Early Alert team, I was involved in implementing several innovative initiatives—an incredibly stimulating environment where new solutions were constantly being developed and tested.

Transitioning to the commercial side, and specifically to the Crushing team, marked a significant step forward in my career. The pace is fast, the work highly collaborative, and I interact regularly with multiple departments and colleagues across the company. It’s helped me build essential communication skills—learning to connect more effectively, choose the right words, and respond quickly and confidently.

One of the highlights so far was participating in the annual commercial meeting, where sales teams from across South America come together to share insights and experiences. It reinforced the importance of staying close to our clients and provided us with tools to strengthen both internal collaboration and customer relationships.

How does your team help solve challenges in the mining industry?

What sets the Crushing team apart is our commitment to being in the field. I primarily support clients in northern Chile, and our approach is always in-person and hands-on. We strive to understand each site’s unique processes and challenges so we can become true partners in solving them.

We’re also prepared to respond quickly to day-to-day operational emergencies. That responsiveness is strengthened by a team with deep and diverse mining experience—bringing critical thinking and analytical skills to every situation.

Crushing is a fundamental stage in the mining process, and being able to deliver fast, accurate solutions not only keeps operations running smoothly but also builds trust and long-term collaboration with our clients.

What excites you the most about the future of ME Elecmetal?

So much! We’re entering a period of big, exciting challenges, and the company actively encourages us to step out of our comfort zones, pursue new markets, and create fresh solutions for new clients. I’m energized by the combination of team stability and our collective enthusiasm for tackling those challenges. Ideas flow constantly, and there’s real momentum behind turning them into action.

Over the past three years, I’ve grown more than I ever expected—collaborating with colleagues in Canada, the United States, Africa, Russia, and beyond. If I stay focused, I know I can keep expanding my career across the globe. ME Elecmetal’s diverse business areas and cross-functional, collaborative projects open up almost limitless opportunities for professional growth.
