Joyce Zhu, Purchasing Manager at ME Elecmetal China: Celebrating 13 Years of Success and Growth

Originally from the historic city of Hangzhou, Joyce Zhu has built a career marked by strategic vision, dedication, and a passion for continuous growth. After earning her degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wuhan University—alongside studies in Economics—Joyce further broadened her perspective with a master’s degree in Project Management from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, an experience that not only enriched her technical knowledge but also deepened her multicultural outlook.

Before joining ME Elecmetal, Joyce worked as a project engineer and later transitioned into international marketing for a control systems company, supporting the company’s global expansion. In 2012, she joined ME Elecmetal China during a pivotal moment—the construction of the Changzhou foundry.

Over the past 13 years, Joyce has taken on multiple roles in step with the plant’s development. She began as a project assistant, supporting a lean team and contributing to equipment procurement and coordination across construction phases. “In the beginning, we were a small team, so I handled several functions at once,” Joyce recalls. “Later, when construction and installation were nearly complete, I transitioned into materials procurement to support the plant’s launch.”

Her career continued to evolve, leading to her current role as Purchasing Manager. Today, she leads a team of eight people responsible for securing all materials and services required for production. “We’re four in the warehouse and three in purchasing. Our mission is to ensure all the materials are properly sourced, organized, and ready to support operational needs”.

“I’ve always felt a strong sense of belonging here. We work closely with each other towards the common goals of the company, and when we are faced with challenges, everyone steps up. Many colleagues are not only my co-workers, but also good friends”.

Joyce is especially proud of ME Elecmetal China’s milestones. “We successfully completed the new Changzhou foundry on time and within budget, reaching full production capacity in 2024, and now expanding to a 40,000-ton annual output. We also produce high-quality products we can be proud of,” explains Joyce.

She fondly remembers the early days when support from senior executives was instrumental in shaping the plant’s culture. “Leaders from ME Elecmetal in the United States and Chile—like Royce Larson, Randy Millard, and John Sellars—were with us regularly, guiding decisions and sharing values. They modeled a culture rooted in problem-solving, respect, accountability, and mentorship. We worked together like a real family.”

Joyce deeply identifies with ME Elecmetal’s values and believes they are clearly reflected in the company’s daily operations.

Looking ahead, her vision is just as ambitious and heartfelt: “I hope ME Elecmetal continues to grow for another 100 years, building more global partnerships and contributing to the globalization of the mining supply chain, as we’re doing now. I can truly envision myself retiring after more than 30 years with this company, just like many senior colleagues have done. And I’d be thrilled to celebrate ME Elecmetal China’s 50th anniversary!” she says enthusiastically.
